Good news from our Jewish brothers and sisters. From LifeNews:

On the eve of Super Tuesday, the oldest Orthodox Jewish Rabbinic organization in the country issued a historic declaration on voting and abortion. The Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the U.S. and Canada says Jewish voters should not vote for candidates who support abortion, calling them "antithetical" to Jewish values.

Rabbi Yehuda Levin, a spokesman for the group, released a video message on Monday with the exhortation.

"It is very important for our community to demonstrate its appreciation for our wonderful country by exercising our civic obligation to vote," he says. "However, it is even more important that we do not support any candidate whose position is in any way antithetical to our Torah based morality."

"Candidates who support abortion on demand," Rabbi Levin told LifeNews.com in a press release, "are antithetical to our way of life and it is forbidden to support or vote for them."

Levin said the group's former president Rabbi Moshe Feinstein "was most vigorous in condemning abortion on demand" and he said the organization took his pro-life stance as a guide.

The Jewish leader said Jews should not compromise their vote by supporting a candidate who is pro-abortion even if the candidate expresses views that are good on other political issues.

It's no wonder that special interest groups and the media try to drive a web between evangelicals and observant Jews. I heard the lie once again last week that evangelicals want Jews to die so that Jesus will return. What dreadful stuff. I remember my mother crying in both the 1967 and 1973 wars when things looked bleak for Israel. They weren't tears of joy either.

I just can’t get excited about the 2008 election. Regardless of where you look, the promises are bleak:

Democrats

• Hillary Clinton — mostly a disaster. I’ve always considered Hillary to be more cruel and calculating than her husband. However, I wouldn’t expect Hillary’s administration to be substantially different from Bill’s, except that she isn’t as likable. She’s radically left, to be sure, but her senate record indicates that she’s willing to compromise her principles if there is something in it for her. She doesn’t have the charm to convince the American people that her health care plan isn’t the disaster that it is. She doesn’t have the charm to do much of anything. One good thing about Hillary is that she will probably carry on the war against terror, though she will claim that she’s only forced to do so because of Bush. Expect many scandals as the usual Clinton thugs make their re-appearance. Hillary is not likable enough to win a second election and probably wouldn’t win the first. And, yes, trusted inside sources tell me that Hillary really is the witch that rumors say she is.

• Barack Obama — the scariest candidate of all. He’s attractive, appealing, motivational, shallow, and will probably be unbeatable in a national election. He could talk America into doing anything that he wants. The only thing that he’s for is change, and that change would be to the hard-left. Expect the Fairness Doctrine to be re-enacted so that we will essentially have a state-controlled media. Obama would probably withdraw all troops from the Middle East. When he does that, Iran would take over Iraq, possibly through outright war but more likely through infiltration and terrorist attacks. America will be reduced into a slumber by his smoothness but will be re-awakened once the mushroom clouds appear over Israel or even Europe.

Republicans

• John McCain — mostly a disaster. Yes, there is much to admire in the man but he is immensely disliked by his fellow senators and the conservative wing of the party. If his polling numbers aren’t good after the primaries and Hillary wins the nomination, look for him to reach out to be Hillary’s vice president. Yes, you heard it here first — a national unity ticket of Clinton-McCain. The press and much of the public would go nuts for it. If his polling numbers are good enough to beat Hillary, his coattails would likely sweep in Republicans much more conservative than he is.
• Mitt Romney — who knows? Conservative talk radio is promoting him as the saviour of the Republican party but will he hold to his new-found conservative principles? The only real reason that I have to vote for Romney is that he’s not John McCain.

God only knows what tomorrow holds. If McCain doesn’t pull out his expected win, the Republican candidate may be decided by the Texas primaries on March 4th. The Democrats are still up for grabs but we may know in 36 hours who the Democrat nominee will be.

So what are we to do? As the wise Anchoress says:

What is your prayer these days, is it, “Jesus I trust in you,” or is it “Lord, I’m so scared, please make it all go the way I think it should?”

I don’t know what the future holds, but I know who holds the future. If I trust in God for my everyday life, shouldn’t I trust him in global events?

Relax. Rest. Vote for the candidate of your choice and trust the rest to God. And to add to something that the Anchoress said:  George W. Bush is going to look really good two years from now.
