ACLU defends student who threatened to kill Bush
If you made multiple posts to a website messages containing detailed threats on killing President Bush, Laura Bush, Dick Cheney, and Donald Rumsfeld, would you expect to be arrested? Vikrim Buddhi, a graduate student and teaching assistant at Purdue University, did just that. Not only that, but court documents show that Buddhi urged the site’s readers to bomb the United States, rape and mutilate American and British women, and kill all Republicans.
Buddhi was arrested, and Stop the ACLU reports that the ACLU has stepped in to defend him, arguring that his First Amendment rights are being violated. Buddhi admitted to investigators that he posted the messages, but his attorney, John Martin, says that Buddhi’s actions are covered by the First Amendment since Buddhi would have never actually carried out his threats. Martin said he hopes his client will be released from jail Wednesday so that he can return to studying.
Right.

And I’m so glad to know that my money was being used to support this “Teaching assistant.”
