Church unity growing
Ankle Biting Pundits has a nice article today called Unity in the Name of “Divisiveness.” Here’s an excerpt — go and read the whole article.:
One of the key arguments I make in a chapter titled “Mere Christians” of my forthcoming book is that the so-called “divisive” political issues of our day are actually bringing people together. Specifically, they are bringing the Church back together.
…
Toward that point, I direct your attention to the tremendous unity expressed by Roman Catholics, evangelical Christians, officials of the Orthodox Church, as well as black and Hispanic religious leaders behind Congressional efforts to write a defense of marriage into our Constitution.
As recently as the 1960s some evangelical leaders expressed a preference to be ruled by Communists rather than Catholics. Catholics were decidedly dismissive of the “easy salvation” offered by evangelical Christianity. And the Orthodox Church trusted none of them. And now here they are, working together representing the most powerful political force in the country.
