In further proof that having Colin Powell in high office is not a good idea, we have these quotes from Powell yesterday:
Former Secretary of State Colin Powell said Thursday that extending walls along the U.S.-Mexico border will not solve the problem of illegal immigration.
"The Berlin Wall did not work perfectly and the wall that the Israelis are putting up is not going to work perfectly," Powell said. "So, a wall alone is not the answer."
...
Powell, speaking at a business conference in Mexico City, said any new barriers should include gates and other entrances to provide easy- access between both countries.
You're correct, Mr. Powell — the Berlin wall did not work perfectly. The occasional person did manage to slip over it. But if the wall had not been there, almost the entire population of East Germany would have moved to West Germany. I know — I visited East Germany once and it was a miserable place.
Of course building a wall from San Diego to Brownsville will not stop every single Mexican who wants to come to America illegally. But it would stop 99.9% of them. That's what I call a good start.

Sorry, Colin is right on this one. The Berlin Wall was not in the middle of BFN, Texas, and did not run for a thousand miles. Beef up the Border Patrol, but no Maginot Line South. How's about this?
STEP UP PENALTIES AND PROSECUTION FOR EMPLOYERS OF ILLEGALS!!!
1. They're not coming here for the climate — there was very little immigration in 1932 — because there was no work to be had.
2. Why hunt down and drag 12 million sobbing people back across the Rio Grande? This and an ugly wall are bad press? WHY NOT USE THE LOW-IQ SOLUTION and remove the incentive?
Here's a quote from Daniel Pipes about the proposed Israeli wall to keep out suicide bombers.
But a wall is not the way to win a conflict. A wall is a tactical mechanism to protect oneself, not a strategic way of winning a war. Winning a war requires imagination - perspective…
Applicable to the US Southern Border.
