al-Zarqawi document contradicts Democrats, American mainstream media
by Michael McCullough at 11:37 AM
Like this is a big surprise to anybody but liberals, but a document found in Zarqawi's safe house contradicts the American mainstream media's reporting of the war in Iraq. We have two sets of claims regarding the war in Iraq: (1) al-Zarqawi's admission in writing that America was winning the war, that the Iraqi government was becoming more effective against preventing terrorist attacks, and that arrests of insurgents had damaged al-Qaeda's ability to carry out attacks; (2) continuous reports from the Democrats and the American mainstream media that the war is going badly for coalition forces, that Iraq is on the brink of civil war, that Americans are committing atrocities against innocent Iraqis, and that we are stuck in a quagmire. Which set of claims most accurately represents the truth?
MAINSTREAM MEDIA AND DEMOCRATS
“Considering the tepid or downright critical responses by the Democrats regarding al-Zarqawi's death, the only rational conclusion we can draw is that the American mainstream media is ignoring facts in order to support the Democrats' opposition to the war.”
First, here is the admission by al-Zarqawi that it was becoming increasingly difficult to fight against the Americans and the new Iraqi government:
However, here in Iraq, time is now beginning to be of service to the American forces and harmful to the resistance for the following reasons:
1. By allowing the American forces to form the forces of the National Guard, to reinforce them and enable them to undertake military operations against the resistance.
2. By undertaking massive arrest operations, invading regions that have an impact on the resistance, and hence causing the resistance to lose many of its elements.
3. By undertaking a media campaign against the resistance resulting in weakening its influence inside the country and presenting its work as harmful to the population rather than being beneficial to the population.
4. By tightening the resistance's financial outlets, restricting its moral options and by confiscating its ammunition and weapons.
5. By creating a big division among the ranks of the resistance and jeopardizing its attack operations, it has weakened its influence and internal support of its elements, thus resulting in a decline of the resistance's assaults.
6. By allowing an increase in the number of countries and elements supporting the occupation or at least allowing to become neutral in their stand toward us in contrast to their previous stand or refusal of the occupation.
7. By taking advantage of the resistance's mistakes and magnifying them in order to misinform.
Next, what did al-Zarqawi intend to do in response to al-Qaeda's troubles? Why, undertake a media campaign to smear America, of course!
Based on the above points, it became necessary that these matters should be treated one by one:
“The question of the day is how successful was al-Zarqawi in enlisting the American mainstream media to turn the American people against the war?”
1. To improve the image of the resistance in society, increase the number of supporters who are refusing occupation and show the clash of interest between society and the occupation and its collaborators. To use the media for spreading an effective and creative image of the resistance.
...
6. To create division and strife between American and other countries and among the elements disagreeing with it.
7. To avoid mistakes that will blemish the image of the resistance and show it as the enemy of the nation.
The question of the day is how successful was al-Zarqawi in enlisting the American mainstream media to turn the American people against the war? Well, the Media Research Center has a compendium of research on Iraq from January 1 to September 30th, 1995 showing that "more than half of all stories (848, or 61%) focused on negative topics or presented a pessimistic analysis of the situation, four times as many as featured U.S. or Iraqi achievements or offered an optimistic assessment (just 211 stories, or 15%)." Further, "just eight stories were devoted to recounting episodes of heroism or valor by U.S. troops, and another nine stories featured instances when soldiers reached out to help the Iraqi people. In contrast, 79 stories focused on allegations of combat mistakes or outright misconduct on the part of U.S. military personnel."
Considering the tepid or downright critical responses by the Democrats regarding al-Zarqawi's death, the only rational conclusion we can draw is that the American mainstream media is ignoring facts in order to support the Democrats' opposition to the war. And yet they still wonder why more and more Americans are turning away from the mainstream media to alternative news sources? Perhaps it's because the American people might not be as stupid as the Democrats and mainstream media think they are.
UPDATE: The Skipper over at Barking Moonbat Early Warning System has this to say about the mainstream media:
There is something terribly wrong with the mainstream media. I would almost be willing to forgive them their liberal bias in most matters if it weren’t for the absolutely despicable way they cover the brave men and women fighting the war on terror How can there be any honesty in devoting less than an hour to coverage of America’s heros and winners of our highest awards for bravery? That’s less than an hour of coverage IN FIVE YEARS.
Yet in the last three weeks alone, the major broadcast news outlets have given 3-½ hours of coverage to an alleged “massacre” supposedly perpetrated by American troops in Haditha. Throw in the coverage of Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo and you literally have HUNDREDS OF HOURS of media coverage of so-called “misconduct” by American troops since 9/11.
At any other time in our nation’s history that would have been called treason, among other things. Pardon my “fwench” but the arrogant bastards reporting the news aren’t fit to kiss the boots of someone like Army Sergeant First Class Paul Ray Smith. Who was he? He was just a soldier ....
