Yeah, I hate to be just a linker but some stories just deserve linking and there’s not much that I can really add to Gateway Pundit’s post on another Iraqi massacre that, um, didn’t happen. As the famous New York Times headline said, the story is fake but accurate.
Gateway Pundit also has other posts over the past month concerning phony war reports coming out of Iraq.
- The media’s bogus report on 20 headless bodies in Diyala Province Nov. 1, 2007
- The media’s bogus report on journalist Dia al-Kawwaz slaughtered family members (with photo!) Nov. 29, 2007
- The media’s bogus Afghanistan “construction worker” bombing. Dec. 2, 2007
The story on the supposed massacre in Dwelah was written by Hamid Ahmed of Associated Press and picked up by ABC News and others. The US military investigated the claims and found that they were not true. I’m too pressed for time now to investigate Ahmed but I’m wondering whether we have another Bilal Hussein on our hands. The Associated Press has a long and magnificent history in this war of hiring Iraqi stringers with shady background to do their reporting for them. Call me paranoid, but if Ahmed got this story so wrong then I have good reason to believe that he’s gotten other stories wrong as well.
Any takers on checking out Ahmed’s “reporting” against facts? Here’s a link to what he’s written for AP.
