All times are EST.

3:22 — Introduction by George Allen, who reiterated McCain’s conservative moments, including voting for conservative judges.

3:24 — Surprisingly warm reception.

3:31 — Supports rights for born and unborn. Campaigned against farm subsidies. Campaigned against National Insurance Refund bill. Reminded audience that he was against Drug Presription act.

3:33 — Invokes his 24-year pro-life record. True, and to his credit.

3:34 — Reiterated his support for the surge.

3:34 — Minor booing as he starts to talk about illegal immigration.

3:36 — Says he will secure borders and have universal acknowledgement that the borders are closed before any sort of citizenship.

3:36 — “I am not in the habit of making promises to my country that I do not intend to keep.” Love him or hate him, this line is true.

3:38 — “I will not sign a bill that has earmarks in it — any earmarks.

3:39 — Will make Bush’s tax cuts permanent.

3:45 — McCain intends to stay on offense on defending ourselves from radicals. Mentions Iran.

3:47 — Reiterates pro-life stance. “Denying liberty is an offense to nature and nature’s Creator.”

3:48 — Good speech and good reception.

McCain did much better than I expected. The crowd was warmer than I had expected, too. Am I warming up to McCain? Possibly. Some of the anti-McCain hysteria over the past several days has been over the top. He will never be my first choice, but I might be able to vote for him without holding my nose, only holding a nice bouquet.
