Nice cartoon the other day from XKCD. While it’s true in a way that we’re not responsible for somebody else’s happiness, it is true that showing God’s love to others can help people through trying times.

I realize that it appears that I made a distinction between God’s love and our love. Showing God’s love does not mean thumping the Bible to someone who is poor, hungry, or depressed. Showing God’s love means treating someone else like we would want to be treated if we were in their position. When our will come’s into line with God’s will, God’s love actually becomes our love.

In the cartoon below, the woman wants to be held and comforted. The man, driven by logic, says something that’s almost — but not quite — true. Had he loved her like we’re supposed to love others, the woman would not have ended up in an ambulance.

Oh, look, the 'make everything better' button was here behind the bookshelf all along
