Morons paint swastikas on a Pennsylvania synagogue

I fear that we’re going to see more and more of this. A generation ago, Americans wouldn’t have tolerated the hate speech of Reverend Jeremiah Wright. Obama’s support of this man has barely caused a drop in his poll numbers.

Now it’s fashionable to be leftist and anti-Semitism is hidden under the guise of “supporting peace in the Middle East.”

Click on the pictures for an enlarged view. From the Times Leader in northeastern Pennsylvania:

ohavzedek01.jpgRoth, along with other worshippers, found three front doors defaced with Nazi symbols in a golden-brown paint, and a six-pointed star in silver paint drawn on the South Franklin Street synagogue.

The word “abschaum,” a German word for scum, was spray-painted on the left front door with the swastika.

“Seeing that kind of thing is a combination of outrage, anger and being disconcerted in the whole process,” Roth said. “It’s shocking. It is a disgraceful thing.”

ohavzedek02.jpgIn the front of the building on the middle door was written, “Jude,” which means Jew in German, Roth said. The Star of David and Jude, or Juden, identify this place of worship - between Ross and South streets - as being property of a Jew.

In some good news, area Christians stood solid with their Jewish brothers and sisters:

WILKES-BARRE - More than 300 people, some donning yarmulkes, clerical collars and habits, stood shoulder to shoulder Thursday in a show of support for Congregation Ohav Zedek.

The Rev. Robert Zanicky, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, said several words entered his mind when he heard about the graffiti. Among them were “disgust, anger, pain and resolve.” He called those responsible “cowards” who “slithered” in the darkness of night to commit their evilness.

“Their evil statement, unsigned, belies their cowardliness,” Zanicky said.

“Our hurt is in solidarity with you. When you hurt, we hurt,” he added.

Among those who also spoke were Monsignor Joseph Rauscher, of St. Nicholas Church; retired Pastor Ann Marie Acacio, Unity Church; and Rabbi Larry Kaplan of Temple Israel.

Standing off to the side, near the South Franklin Street sidewalk, were Sister John Marie Hickl and Sister Mary Jerome Kunetz, who walked to the ceremony from nearby St. Nicholas Convent.

The nuns said they came to show their support against “such a terrible thing that’s happened.”

More good news — the idiots were being honed in on by the police and turned themselves in.

WILKES-BARRE - Two teen girls - one a self-proclaimed Nazi - were arrested Thursday and charged with spray-painting the Ohav Zedek Synagogue and another building with anti-Semitic words and symbols.

Nora Rynkeiwicz, 18, of Factoryville, and her 17-year-old juvenile friend, turned themselves in to police. Rynkeiwicz, a senior at Wyoming Valley West, told a judge she has been living with her grandmother in Plymouth for the past several years.

Dressed in baggy camouflage pants and black leather boots, Rynkeiwicz was taken to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility from District Judge William Amesbury’s courtroom after her arraignment late Thursday.
