Iraqi journalist throws shoes at President Bush

Throwing your shoes at someone is one of the strongest of ancient Middle Eastern insults. As everyone knows by now, an Iraqi jouranlist threw his shoes at President Bush today and called him a dog, which is also an Islamic insult.

Bush handled it with characteristic grace and humor:

“So what if the guy threw a shoe at me?” Bush said, comparing the action to political protests in the United States. “If you want the facts, it was a size 10,” he joked.

What I want to know is what organization is this journalist associated with? We’ve had plenty of incidents over the past 7 years were the mainstream media, who were too chicken to go out on their own, relied on Iraqi stringers for their news. They are known to over-reported deaths, re-arrange items before photographing the scene of an attack, and some always managed to be right on the spot when an attack happened.

What if the journalist works for AP or Reuters? That would be interesting. Perhaps we will find out in the next few days.
