Stingray: February 2009 Archives

February 2009 Archives

This comes as no surprise, but the Obama administration is changing US foreign policy so we are no longer as supportive of Israel than we have been since 1948. It will take time to discover to what degree Obama will support Israel but his actions thus far -- like pledging $900 million to rebuild Gaza that will undoubtedly end up in the pockets of Hamas -- is indicative of what we can expect.

If we drop our support of Israel, God will lift his protective hand from our nation. God help us.

The saddest thing is that approximately 75% of American Jews voted for Obama.

From CBS:

In a swift about face from her views as New York's senator, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is now hammering Israel over its treatment of Palestinians in Gaza.

As first lady, Clinton raised eyebrows when she kissed Suha Arafat.

Since she was then seeking a Senate seat the resulting brouhaha caused her to "re-think" her positions.

"I'm a very strong supporter of Israel," Clinton said back in February 2000.

On Thursday, as secretary of state she had yet another about face in the form of angry messages demanding Israel speed up aid to Gaza. Jewish leaders are furious.

"I am very surprised, frankly, at this statement from the United States government and from the secretary of state," said Mortimer Zuckerman, publisher of the New York Daily News and member of the NYC Jewish Community Relations Council. [ed: Why the hell are you surprised? It's not like Obama is known for keeping promises.]

"I liked her a lot more as a senator from New York," Assemblyman Dov Hikind, D-Brooklyn, said. "Now, I wonder as I used to wonder who the real Hillary Clinton is." [ed: Why the hell are you just beginning to wonder now?]

Clinton's decision to hammer Israel comes as the Clintons and President Barack Obama are planning to give the Palestinians $900 million toward the rebuilding of Gaza in the wake of the Israeli

dead_dinosaur.jpgFrom the Associated Press (may it shut down operations, too):

The San Francisco Chronicle joined the lengthening list of imperiled newspapers Tuesday as its owner set out to purge the payroll and slash other expenses in a last-ditch effort to reverse years of heavy losses.

If it can’t reduce expenses dramatically within the next few weeks, the Hearst Corp. said it will close or sell the Chronicle, northern California’s largest newspaper with a paid weekday circulation of 339,430.

Hearst didn’t specify a savings target nor a deadline for wringing out the expenses. A Hearst spokesman didn’t immediately respond to messages Tuesday.

But management made it clear that the cost-cutting will require a significant number of layoffs.

“Our current situation dictates that we accomplish these cost savings quickly,” Chronicle Publisher Frank Vega wrote in a memo to the staff. “Business as usual is no longer an option.”

It don’t take a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.
